I recently finished a postdoc at the Lawrence Hall of Science, working on a project called LakeViz, which aims to increase public understanding and stewardship of freshwater ecosystems. I designed, evaluated and delivered a range of STEM educational products and technologies.
My favorite project was the Shaping Our Worlds Augmented Reality Sandbox. The AR Sandbox combines 3D and augmented reality technology with a traditional sandbox and taps into users’ sense of playfulness in order to help them visualize and better understand geoscience principles and processes.
Here’s an article we wrote about the sandbox.
I also had fun developing an educational iOS app called DIY Lake Science, which includes a dozen hands-on activities to learn about freshwater ecosystems.
